Gedeelde passie

Namens Het DakarPress team een gelukkig en gezond nieuw jaar.

Het was gisteren een drukke dag voor ons persteam. Een groot deel van het Nederlandse deelnemersveld moest zijn voertuigen ter keuring aanbieden. De Nederlandse bijdrage aan de Dakar is elk jaar groot, en ook dit jaar. We zijn het derde land qua grootte, alleen Frankrijk en Spanje hebben een groter aantal deelnemers. Voor ons betekent dat, dat wij vandaag ons team in tweeën hebben gedeeld om op zoveel mogelijk plaatsen aanwezig te zijn.

Roeland staat foto’s te maken bij de 6x6 Veka assistentie truck. En wij maken weer foto’s van Roeland. En Bas maakt weer foto’s van mij terwijl ik mijn gezicht in smeer met zonnebrand.

Gesproken met veel rijders, navigators en monteurs. Lekker over techniek gekletst met Richard de Rooy, monteur van het Ginaf team. Even de diesel door de aderen laten lopen. Heerlijk!

Behalve dat er veel te beleven is in en rond Dakar is ook het leven van de Argentijnse mensen leuk om van dichtbij mee te maken. Wat zijn die enthousiast! En ondanks dat we hier ver van huis zijn is het geen cultuur shock. Ik voel me hier aardig thuis. De auto's die hier rijden zijn zo gaaf. Er rijden hier nieuwe auto’s tot auto’s van 40 jaar oud. Heel erg gaaf was het dat ik van de week vanuit onze auto aan het kijken was naar een Ford F100 van een jaar of 35 oud. Ik pakte mijn toestel om een foto van zijn auto te maken, terwijl de man van de F100 met open mond naar onze auto zat te staren. We hadden allebei dezelfde passie.

Weer een mooie dag voorbij, informatie verwerken en dan eten, en dat is geen probleem want waar wij om in Nederland om 6 uur achter de piepers zitten, wordt hier om 12 uur nog gegeten.

Everybody a happy new year

It was a busy day yesterday for our press team. Much of the Dutch participants had to offer vehicles for inspection. The Dutch contribution to the Dakar every year great,and this year. We are the third country in size, only France and Spain have a larger number of participants. For us that means that today we have divided our team into two. Finding the best possible places to take photo's..

Roeland able to take pictures at the Veka 6x6 assistance truck. And we are again pictures of Roeland. Bas is  making pictures of me putting sunburn cream on my face.

Talked to many drivers, navigators and mechanics. Talked about good technique with Richard de Rooy, the mechanic of the Ginaf team. Just the diesel running through my veins. Great!

Except that there is much to do in and around the Dakar rally , is the life of the Argentina people like to get up close with it. What are they excited! And even though we are far from home is not a culture shock. I feel quite at home here. The cars are so cool here, there are new cars, to cars up to 40 years old. A very cool moment I had this week was that I from our car was watching a Ford F100 from about 35  years old. I grabbed my camera to take a picture of his car, while the man of the F100 with his mouth open was staring at our car. We both have the same passion.

Another beautiful day passed, first process  all of the information,  than food, and that's no problem because we in the Netherlands are used to eat our patatoes at 6 o'clock in the evening , but here the people eat up to  12 o'clock Yes Olivier, I am not at home in time these weeks :-) .
